New Site, New Era for OUTCAST
After three years and four watches, it was time to admit it: the old website had done its job and then some—and it was past due for retirement.
The first OUTCAST site was extremely rough on purpose. It was basically a home-built workbench: WordPress, Ecwid, some duct tape, and a lot of experimentation. We tried different layouts, different ways of showing watches, different shopping carts… all so I could figure out what actually worked for real people who use their gear.
Eventually the answer became clear: throw it all out and start over.
Why We Moved to Shopify
The new site is built on Shopify from the ground up. That let me:
-
Clean up the navigation
-
Make ordering simpler and more reliable
-
Tie everything together with the new watch builder and pre-order system
Instead of fighting the old stack every time we added a watch, I’d rather spend that energy on better tools, better parts, and clearer info.
From Fixed Models to Made-to-Order
The bigger change isn’t the platform—it’s the whole product strategy.
The old OUTCAST lineup was a handful of fixed models: you picked a watch, maybe a strap, and that was that.
Going forward, OUTCAST is built around made-to-order custom watches:
-
You choose the movement, dial, bezel, case, hands, and bracelet
-
We build that exact watch for you when you order
If you don’t want to design your own, no problem. We’ll still offer a few standard configurations—ready-made setups that function like a “normal” product. They’ll just be built on demand instead of pulled from a warehouse.
What’s Next
Over the next few months I’ll keep adding:
-
More dials, bezels, and cases
-
More “tool-specific” builds for travel, backcountry, water, and range
-
More clear how-it-works pages so you know exactly what each part is for
- And hopefully a radical new case that will blow you away
The goal is simple: whether you build from scratch or start from a preset, you end up with a watch that actually does a job for you—not just another shiny object.
Thanks for sticking around through the rough early version. This new site is the next step in taking OUTCAST from a small experiment to a proper tool watch shop.
